Kolkata : India’s rising badminton star Tanvi Sharma has been named in the 19-member Indian squad for the upcoming Badminton Asian Junior Championships, scheduled to take place in Solo, Indonesia, from July 18 to 27. The tournament, comprising both team and individual events, promises to be a significant platform for the country’s promising young shuttlers.

Tanvi, who previously clinched gold at the Badminton Asia Women’s Team Championships, will lead India’s challenge in women’s singles. Currently ranked No. 2 in the BWF junior rankings, she is seen as a key medal prospect. Also bolstering India’s campaign are Bhargava Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gibburu, the world’s top-ranked junior men’s doubles pair, whose consistent performances will be vital to the team’s success. The championship will begin with the team event from July 18 to 22, followed by the individual competitions from July 23 to 27. The team matches will be conducted in a unique relay format, where the first side to reach 110 points will be declared the winner. The event starts with a group stage before heading into knockout rounds, with the top two teams from each group advancing. The entire squad will participate in a preparatory camp at the National Centre of Excellence (NCE) in Guwahati from July 4 to 15. Interestingly, the NCE Guwahati will also host the BWF Junior World Championships later this year, offering players a chance to acclimatise and train in world-class facilities. Rounak Chouhan, ranked 12th in the boys’ singles, will lead the men’s singles lineup, while Vennala Kalagotla will represent India in both singles and doubles.

With a mix of top-ranked players and emerging talent, India’s squad for the Badminton Asian Junior Championships appears well-balanced and competitive. Backed by structured training at the national camp and past international experience, the contingent is expected to make a strong impact in Indonesia. All eyes will be on Tanvi Sharma and the men’s doubles pair of Bhargava and Viswa Tej as India looks to secure podium finishes in both team and individual events
