Kolkata : Polish and Juventus Goalkeeper Wojciech Szczensy announced retirement from all forms of Football on August 27.
The polish clinched 11 major trophies during his time in Italy and England. He earned 84 caps for Poland.
To everyone’s shock, the 34 years old decided to hang his boots inspite of having 1 year left in his Juventus contract.
Juventus coach Thiago Motta already informed him ahead of the upcoming season that the Szczensy wasn’t in his plans.
After revelations of Motta’s plans publicly, Saudi Pro League Club Al Nassr reportedly approached the Goal Keeper.
However, a breakdown in that negotiations ended that path & saw Szczensy retiring at young age.
He announced his retirement via social media post saying, “I left Warsaw, my hometown in June of 2006 to join Arsenal with one dream – to make a living out of football. Little did I know it would be a start of a journey of a lifitime. Little did I know that I would get to play for the biggest clubs in the world and represent my country 84 times… Today, tough my body still feels ready for challenges, my heart is not there anymore. I feel that right now it is time to give all of my attention to my family”.
“Therefore I have decided to retire from professional football. A journey’s end is a time for reflection and gratitude. There’s a lot of people that I would have to thank in this spot but I will try to that personally with each one of them. But to you – the fans I owe a special thank you for being on this journey with me,” the post added.
Szczesny’s career began at Arsenal in the Premier League before he moved on to play for Brentford and Roma. However, it was during his 7 seasons stint at Juventus that he achieved significant success, winning the Serie A title 3 times and the Coppa Italia on 3 occasions.
