Kolkata : Indian Wicket keeper Batter spread his horizon beyond Cricket, as he became the Owner of Kerala Super League Football team Malappuram FC.
The announcement, made on Monday (September 9), comes on the accounts of Malappuram FC’s historic first 2-1 victory over Forca Kochi in an away match at Kochi’s Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium.
The team, based in the Malappuram district, plays its home games at the Payyanad Stadium, also known as the Malappuram District Sports Complex Stadium, which has a seating capacity of 30,000.
The ownership group that Samson joined includes renowned personalities like VA Ajmal Bismi, Dr. Anvar Ameen Chelat, and Baby Neelambra.
The Kerala Super League is set to mark it’s inaugural season this year, intended to groom youth local talents for future of Indian Football. A total of six teams are part of the competition including Malappuram FC, Forca Kochi, Kannur Warriors, Calicut FC, Thiruvananthapuram Kombans and Thrissur Magic.
Samson is the latest India cricketer to buy a stake in a football club after Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. While Kohli co-owns Indian Super League club FC Goa, Dhoni is the co-owner of Chennaiyin FC.
The Rajasthan Royals skipper was part of ICC T20 WC 2024 winning squad, although he didn’t feature in any matches. He’s currently featuring in Duleep Trophy India D.
