MLS 2024-25: Messi brought the trophy to Inter Miami with a pair of goals

KOLKATA:- Inter Miami won the Supporters’ Shield for the first time in history thanks to Lionel Messi’s double goals. David Beckham’s team beat the Columbus Crew 3-2 in Major League Soccer. Apart from Messi, Inter Miami’s other goal scorer is Luis Suarez, one of the best strikers in Uruguay.

Messi took to the field at Lower Dotcom Field on Thursday aiming to win the Supporters’ Shield title for the first time.

From the start of the match, the Columbus Crew attacked Inter Miami. He almost scored once but it was canceled due to offside. Compared to that, Suarez did not get a chance to show much attacking play in the first 25 minutes. At the very end of the first half in the 45th minute, a beautiful through ball was arranged for Messi from almost the middle of the field. Messi put the ball on his chest and put it in the net, fooling the two defenders and the goalkeeper. Moments later, the Argentine captain scored a fantastic left-footed free kick in extra time. In the first half, Inter Miami led with Messi’s double goal.

Diego Rossi scored the first goal for Columbus Crew in the 46th minute of the second half. Within 2 minutes, Suarez got an easy chance to score in the box after a mistake by the goalkeeper of the Columbus Crew team. The Uruguayan striker increased the gap again by scoring with his head. Then Hernandez scored a penalty for Columbus Crew in the 61st minute. The Columbus Crew could not equalize despite having multiple chances.
