Wembley : Premier League champion Manchester City conquered FA Cup winners Manchester United in Penalties 7-6 to clinch Community Shield at Wembley, with original scoreline being 1-1.
Alejandro Garnacho scored for United in 82nd minute, putting them in a victorious position. However, in 89th minute, Bernardo Silva delivered an equalizer, bringing the scoreline to 1-1, bringing the match to penalty shootout.
The Penalty shootout eventually went in City’s favour 7-6 , thereby lifting the title.
Kevin De Bruyne, Erling Haaland, Savinho, Ederson, Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias and Manuel Akanji made no mistake from 12-yards. City goalkeeper Ederson saved Jadon Sancho’s effort before Jonny Evans missed the target which saw City win 7-6 to kickstart the 2024/25 season in style. This is the 7th time City have won the curtain raiser.
