Rajkot : New Zealand defeated India by 7 wickets at Niranjan Shah Stadium, Rajkot to level the series 1-1. Despite KL Rahul’s century, Daryl Mitchell smashed 131* to guide Kiwis to victory.
Batting first, Rohit Sharma (24) departed after 70 runs opening stand with skipper Shubman Gill (56), who scored important half century. Despite middler order seeing fumble, KL Rahul (112*) put up 73 & 57 runs vital stands with Ravindra Jadeja (27) and Nitish Reddy (20).
Rahul went on to score his 8th ODI ton, an unbeaten 112*(92) comprising 1 six and 11 boundaries. India put up 284-7 (50) on board.
Chasing 285 runs, New Zealand lost both openers on 46 runs. Will Young (87) and Daryl Mitchell (131*) notched up vital 162 runs partnership to erase all pressure that was built on New Zealand.
Even after Young’s dismissal, Glenn Phillips (32*) put up match winning 78 runs partnership, with Mitchell smashing 131* (117) comprising 2 sixes and 11 boundaries, gifting an easy win to New Zealand.
Both teams will next face each other on 18th January at Indore.
