Kolkata : Former Indian keeper Parthiv Patel has revealed some shocking allegations on IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) . He focused on the fact that individual preference concept in the camp was biggest factor for not winning a title till date.
RCB reached finals 3 times. In 17 years of IPL they’ve never won any title despite accoladed stars like Virat Kohli, AB De Villiers, Chris Gayle, Dale Steyn, and so on.
Parthiv Patel, who has spent 4 years in the franchise revealed that individual preference with likes of Kohli, ABD and Gayle rather than functioning as a team was the biggest reason for this fate.
The 39-year-old said the franchise always focused on individual players rather than functioning as a team, highlighting how the spotlight was always on star players like Kohli, De Villiers, and Gayle during his stint in RCB.
“I played for RCB, I’ve have been there for 4 years. The team is always about individuals it’s not about the Team. And then everyone will come out of that team will say that. Because it was all about Kohli, ABD, and Gayle when I was in the Team”.
“So they were given the kind of special preference always so there the team culture was not there you can see clearly when they are playing, and that is the reason why they haven’t won the trophies. That’s the fact”, Parthiv Patel said in a podcast.
Even Chris Gayle said in Jio Cinema ahead of IPL 2023 that “A lot of players didn’t feel like they are part of the franchise. It was only three players getting all the attention, myself, Virat and AB. So a lot of players pretty much mentally are nowhere within the team. So that’s always going to be a challenge to win a title.”
A similar fashion was followed for last 3 years when Faf Du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell joined the franchise. It will be interesting to see if the franchise adopt the similar process in further seasons or play as a team, thereby, lift the title.
