IND vs SA, 1st ODI: Virat Kohli stars as India win thriller against South Africa

Ranchi : India defeated South Africa by 17 runs at Ranchi in 1st ODI to take 1-0 lead with help of Virat Kohli’s 52nd ODI ton.

Batting first, India lost opener Yashasvi Jaiswal (18) early for 25 runs.

Indian veteran and legendary pair Virat Kohli (135) and Rohit Sharma (57) took matters in their own hand and notched 136 runs partnership.

Kohli held the innings from one end scoring his 83rd international century with knock of 135 (120) comprising 7 sixes and 11 boundaries.

The innings was shaped later by skipper KL Rahul (60) and Ravindra Jadeja (32) as India managed to post huge total of 349-8 (50).

Defending 350 runs, Harshit Rana removed Ryan Rickelton and Quinton de Kock whereas Arshdeep Singh dismissed skipper Aiden Markram as South Africa were reduced to 11-3.

The pressure was eased off by crucial knocks of Breetzke (72), Tony de Zorzi (39), Dewald Brevis (37) and Marco Jansen (70) in the middle, however, Kuldeep Yadav bagged 4 wickets to yet again turn the game in Indian favour.

Despite Corbin Bosch (67) playing heroic knock from one end, Prasidh Krishna took the final wicket (of Bosch) in last over and India clinched 17 runs victory.

Virat Kohli was awarded Player of the Match award.
