Kolkata : India and Pakistan, the arch rivals are set to face each other on February 23, 2025, in Match 5, Group A encounter of ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This clash is one of the most highly anticipated match since ages.
Pakistan defeated India in previous edition (2017) final, winning their maiden CT title. The wounds are still fresh in Indian’s blood, and the Men in Blue are all set to seek revenge.

India came into the ICC CT 2025 after winning ODI series against England 3-0, with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, coming back into form, after they’re facing rough patch in BGT Trophy.
In the first match of ICC CT 2025, India defeated Bangladesh by 60 runs. Mohammed Shami, despite rusty run ups and returning to squad after injury picked 5-fer. Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul too showed their blistering form and Shubman Gill, in red hot form smashed his 8th ODI ton. The spin trio of Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav too stopped run flows in middle order. Harshit Rana too bowled well picking 3-fers.
Matter of concerns could be lack of wicket taking abilities in middle phase, the spinners apart from Axar, didn’t pick single wicket and allowed Bangladesh to post 228 runs, where at one point of time they’re struggling at 35-5. Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, too got out cheaply, also displayed middle order weakness.
“After winning there is no point in having a mindset,” a confident-looking Shami said in response to a question on facing Pakistan next.
“You should stay in the same frame (habit) when you win a match and when you perform well. I don’t think you need to think too much about the ICC tournament or any international match.” Fellow pace bowler Harshit Rana claimed three wickets in his team’s win and exuded the same confidence.
“It’s great to perform ahead of the Pakistan match and hopefully I can take this momentum forward,” said Rana. “But the Pakistan match is just another game for us.”

Pakistan came into the ICC CT 2025, after losing Tri-Series (involving South Africa, New Zealand, Pakistan) final against New Zealand.
In the very first match of CT, Kiwis yet again hammered Pakistan by 60 runs. The hosts were unable to chase down 321 runs, a match where Tom Latham and Will Young smashed tons hammering Pakistan pacers – Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf as well as spinners – Khushdil Shah, Abrar Ahmed. The bowling looked in bleak form.
In Batting Khushdil, Salman Agha displayed fine form but slow 64 (90) innings by Babar Azam put pressure on Pakistan middle order Batters. Star Batters like Fakhar Zaman, skipper Md Rizwan, Tayyab Tahir, Saud Shakeel failed drastically.
In short, India will carry winning confidence, contrary to that of Pakistan.
“If we want to win against the great teams of the world and be one of the great teams of the world we will have to bring consistency,” Pakistan batsman Salman Ali Agha said.

Pakistan’s Champions Trophy hopes were not only hit by the defeat by New Zealand on Wednesday, but also the tournament-ending injury for Fakhar Zaman, after he dived on field to save Ball from reaching boundary. Imam ul-Haq has replaced him in the squad.
