Kolkata : Deepti Sharma headlined India’s mammoth series win over Sri Lanka with a piece of history, becoming the all-time leading wicket-taker in women’s T20Is.

The 28-year-old surpassed Megan Schutt to become the most successful in the format – snapping her 152nd wicket during India’s win in the fifth T20I. She now averages 19 after 133 outings.

Deepti attained the milestone in the 14th over of the match, when she trapped Nilakshika Silva leg before wicket.

The wicket helped India eventually seize the series finale by 15 runs, after having posted 175/7 from their quota of 20 overs.

Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur led India’s charge with the bat, compiling 68 off 43 deliveries – a knock laced with nine fours and a maximum.

“2025 has been great for us. All the hard work we have done, this year we have got the credit. It’s about repeating these habits,” Kaur said after the game.

“Shifting to T20 from ODI wasn’t easy but everyone was excited to play. We fought for this and happy how all things came together.”

Casting her sights to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 in England and Wales and the build-up to the tournament, Kaur added, “Next six months are important, we want to keep working hard and raising the bar.”

India will kickstart their campaign at next year’s tournament against Pakistan on June 14.
