Kolkata: Mohun Bagan Super Giants received another shock after Calcutta Customs game defeat, as this time Bhawanipore FC crushed them 2-1 at Mohun Bagan AC Ground, Kolkata. Completing 6 games, the Mariners recorded 3 wins, 1 draw and 2 losses, at number 5 in points table and Super 6 spot now looks difficult for them. Meanwhile, Bhawanipore are at Group A table summit after the win with East Bengal at number 2.
Bhawanipore looked dominant right from the start with brilliant attacking rhythm from Sahil Harijan and Jiten Murmu. Mohun Bagan however didn’t find good rhythm.
Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Deeprobhat Ghosh was the saviour making many saves. Mariners themselves lost several chances. Their first goal was disallowed for being offside. Kiyan Nassiri’s short struck the goal post and missed. Both side ended goalless first half.
Bhawanipore took the lead in the 80th minute of the match. Sahil Harijan scored after beating the Bagan defenders. Then there was a special celebration with his father in the gallery.
However, Bivan Jyoti Laskar equalized for Mohun Bagan in 86th minute. But just 2 minutes later, Robi Hansda with a wonderful long range short converted a goal to make it 2-1 for Bhawanipore.
Mohun Bagan couldn’t recover and eventually ended the game with 2-1 loss and uncertainty over Super 6 berth.
