Glasgow: India signed off from the Commonwealth Games 2026 unable to add any medals to their tally on the final day, despite coming very close to securing another bronze. Judoka Ishroop Narang, competing in the women’s -78kg judo event, kept India’s medal hopes alive but narrowly missed out on a podium finish. Meanwhile, para-cyclist Lisha Das also missed out on a podium place, finishing sixth in the women’s C4-C5 1000m time trial final. The other two Indian judokas, Avatar Singh and Yash Ghanghas, both suffered defeats and exited early in their campaigns. Meanwhile, India’s cyclists endured a difficult day, with Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam finishing 20th in the men’s 1000m time trial. In the men’s 40km points race qualification round, Dinesh Kumar and Harshveer Singh Sekhon were both eliminated before advancing to the medal race. Overall, on Day 11 and the final day of the Commonwealth Games 2026, India endured a medal-less day and concluded their campaign with 39 medals—13 gold, 17 silver, and 9 bronze to finish fourth in the overall standings. Australia topped the medal table with a dominant haul of 171 medals (70 gold, 50 silver and 51 bronze), while England finished second with 110 medals (28 gold, 45 silver and 37 bronze). Canada claimed third place with 62 medals (18 gold, 21 silver and 23 bronze). India finished fourth with 39 medals, ahead of hosts Scotland, who also collected 39 medals but were placed below India due to their lower silver-medal count at the conclusion of the Games in Glasgow on August 2.
Track Cycling and Para Cycling:
Teenage para-cyclist Lisha Das finished sixth in the women’s C4-C5 1000m time trial final, clocking 1:34.410. Australia’s Tara Neyland claimed the gold medal with a time of 1:08.761, while Great Britain’s Kadeena Cox took silver in 1:09.943 and Australia’s Erin Normoyle secured bronze in 1:13.542. Earlier in the Games, Lisha had also narrowly missed qualification for the women’s 4000m individual pursuit final, bringing her campaign to a close after competing against some of the world’s best riders.
In track cycling, Ronaldo Singh Laitonjam finished 20th in the men’s 1000m time trial final with a time of 1:04.191. Australia’s Leigh Hofmann won the gold medal in 58.530 seconds, England’s Joseph Truman claimed silver in 59.525 seconds, while Australia’s Tayte Ryan secured bronze in 59.684 seconds.
Meanwhile, Harshveer Singh’s campaign ended early after he was eliminated in Heat 1 of the men’s 40km points race.
Dinesh Kumar also bowed out of the men’s 40km points race after finishing with four points in the second qualification heat, bringing India’s track cycling campaign at Glasgow 2026 to a close.
Judo:
Ishroop Narang narrowly missed out on the expected bronze medal in the women’s -78kg judo event. She kept India’s medal hopes alive with a remarkable comeback victory over Georgika Wesly Djengue Moune of Cameroon by Waza-ari in the women’s -78kg repechage. However, she narrowly missed a podium finish after suffering a defeat to Canada’s Carlie Godbout by Yuko in the bronze medal contest.
Olympian Avatar Singh exited early in his campaign after suffering a defeat to Cyprus’ Aristtons Michael in the men’s 100kg Round of 16.
Yash Ghanghas also bowed out in the men’s 100kg Round of 16 after losing to Wales’ Joshua Whitehouse by Yuko.
India’s 39-medal campaign featured several historic and landmark achievements at the Commonwealth Games 2026 despite the absence of traditional medal-rich sports such as shooting, wrestling, badminton, hockey and table tennis. India successfully accomplished several remarkable milestones despite the absence of these major medal-contributing sports. India completed one of its strongest Commonwealth Games campaigns in recent years. A total of 122 athletes represented the country in Glasgow, with 38 athletes returning home with medals. Boxing showcased India’s dominance at the Commonwealth Games by securing 10 medals, including seven gold and three silver. Judo produced another record-breaking historic breakthrough by delivering India’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medal, while para-athletics and athletics also produced several memorable and outstanding performances. With the Glasgow Games now concluded, attention now turns to the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, where India will host the event for the second time after New Delhi 2010. During the closing ceremony, the Commonwealth Baton was officially handed over to India, with boxing gold medallist Jaismine Lamboria serving as the country’s flag bearer following one of India’s most successful Commonwealth Games campaigns.
