Kolkata: Subhadeep Ghosh has replaced T Dilip as India Men’s fielding coach ahead of the vital WTC two match Test series against Sri Lanka.
The 57 years was previously the Fielding coach of Indian Women’s Team for 2 years, including the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup and the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup. Apart from that, he has also worked with India A and coached Assam’s senior men’s team. In his playing days, he was a right-hand batter and featured in 17 first-class matches and as many List A games for Assam and Railways.
Ghosh worked at the National Cricket Academy (now called BCCI Centre of Excellence) for six to seven years when former India head coach Rahul Dravid was heading the NCA. He also had been associated with India A, Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in IPL previously.
The Assam Cricket Association (ACA) welcomed the appointment, calling it a proud moment not only for the state but also for aspiring coaches from the region.
“Over the years, he has built an impressive coaching profile by working with various Indian teams across different age groups, earning recognition for his dedication and expertise,” the ACA said via a press release.
“Assam Cricket Association takes immense pride in this significant achievement by one of Assam’s own. His appointment is a moment of great honour for the state’s cricketing fraternity and serves as an inspiration for aspiring cricketers and coaches across the region,” the press note added.
Ghosh has never played for India. He represented Assam and Railways in 17 Games (First Class) & as many games in List A, scoring 316 & 307 runs respectively.
Dilip was India men’s fielding coach from 2021 to the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He then returned again during India’s Test tour of the UK in 2025 for a one-year stint. He was not given an extension after his contract ended.
India men’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate had also left his role after the white-ball series in England and joined KKR as head of cricket strategy.
The first Test in Sri Lanka begins on August 15 in Galle and the second on August 23 at the SSC in Colombo. Ahead of the series, the team will play a three-day practice match in Colombo, starting on August 7.
