Kolkata : Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becomes the youngest debutant for Indian Men’s team as he received his maiden T20I cap in 2nd T20I against England.
At 15 years and 99 days, Sooryavanshi is the youngest to play international cricket for India. Sachin Tendulkar had represented men’s national team at 16 in 1989.
In the shortest format, the previous record for an Indian was held by Shafali Verma, who had made her debut against South Africa in September 2019, when she was 15 years and 239 days old. Among men, it was Washington Sundar, who held the previous record at 18 years and 80 days against Sri Lanka in 2017.
Sooryavanshi also becomes the third youngest male debutant in international Cricket after Pakistan’s Hasan Raza who at 14 years and 227 days made debut against Zimbabwe in 1996. Just six days later, he also became the youngest player to feature in a One-day International– a record he still holds today.
