Jaipur : Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) brought off a stunning run chase against Rajasthan Royals (RR), defeating them by five wickets in the 36th match of the IPL 2026 season on 25 April, Saturday, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. Successfully chasing 229 with 9 balls to spare, it became the fourth-highest run chase in IPL history in a high-scoring match.

The match began with SRH won the toss and elected to bowl first. The sensational teenager, the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, produced a blistering 103 off just 37 balls. By this innings, he made many records, including Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becoming the youngest player in men’s T20 cricket to reach 1,000 runs, and doing so faster than anyone before him—getting there in just 473 balls, eclipsing the previous benchmark set by Mitchell Owen (533 balls). The teenager hammered a breathtaking 36-ball century in IPL 2026—now the third-fastest hundred in league history, behind only Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball blitz and his own 35-ball effort from last season. He is now among a select group of players alongside Abhishek Sharma with multiple IPL knocks featuring 10 or more sixes, while also becoming the first batter to score more than one IPL hundred in under 40 balls. He is the only batter among 1000+ T20-run scorers with a 200+ strike rate (over 212), with multiple IPL innings of 10+ sixes (an elite list including Chris Gayle and Abhishek Sharma). He also smashed 4 sixes in the very first over of an IPL innings—the first-ever instance. After his century, he was dismissed shortly for LBW by Shakib Hussain. Before that, he and Dhruv Jurel built a strong partnership, with Jurel also contributing a solid 51 off 35 balls. The opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed early after scoring 10 off 8 balls. Donovan Ferreira added valuable runs with 33 off 16 balls. Powered mainly by Vaibhav’s innings, RR posted 228/6 in 20 overs. SRH bowlers fought back strongly, and SRH also suffered from dropped catches, which could have pushed their total closer to 240.

To chase the massive target, SRH suffered an early setback with the dismissal of Travis Head by Jofra Archer for 6 off 5 balls. However, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan quickly shifted the momentum with a strong counterattack, building a solid partnership and finishing the powerplay at 89/1. Abhishek Sharma was dismissed after a great contribution, scoring 57 off 29 balls, while Ishan Kishan followed with a brilliant knock of 74 off 31 balls, who also became the Player of the Match. Klaasen and Nitish Reddy then played crucial roles in maintaining the chase, scoring 29 off 24 balls and 36 off 18 balls respectively. Both were dismissed in the same over by Bhargav Sharma. Finally, Salil Arora ended up the chase with a six, sealing the chase successfully, as SRH finished at 229/5 in 18.3 overs, securing a famous victory.

RR bowlers tried hard to defend the target but were let down by missed chances, including dropping Abhishek Sharma twice. First, Shimron Hetmyer moved away from third man when Abhishek hit one straight to him off Nandre Burger.

With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad moved to 3rd position on the points table with 10 points, while Rajasthan Royals slipped to 4th place, also with 10 points.
