Kolkata : Bengal giants Mohun Bagan have decided to not play Calcutta Football League 2025 matches until Durand Cup 2025 is over. This implies they won’t play tomorrow’s match against Measures FC at Naihati Stadium.

Mohun Bagan authorities have also written this message via official letter to Indian Football Association (IFA). 18 footballers have been registered for the Durand Cup. Out of them, 8-9 are playing regularly. Most of them are juniors. Several footballers from the Kolkata League are playing regularly in Durand. If any of them gets injured, the team will face problems. The IFA has been informed in a letter that in this situation, it is not possible to play the Kolkata League along with the Durand Cup.

Incidentally, on August 8, the team’s CEO Vinay Chopra wrote a letter to the IFA. In that letter, a request was made not to play any CFL match during Durand. But the IFA did not pay attention to it. The match was held on Wednesday without heeding the request. Initially, this match was supposed to be held at the Mohun Bagan ground. But since the broadcast arrangements were not complete, the match was shifted to Naihati. On Monday night, the Mohun Bagan authorities informed the IFA by writing a letter that they will not play the Kolkata League match on Wednesday. Nothing has been known from the IFA in this regard yet.

Moreover, Mohun Bagan qualified for Durand Cup 2025 Quarter Finals, being undefeated in Group stage. The quarter final opponents are not known yet, but Mohun Bagan are expected to field full strength team from the knockout onwards.
