Paris : 51 years Old Turkish Shooter Yusuf Dikec shook the internet today with clinching Silver medal in Shooting 10M Air Pistol Mixed Event at Paris Olympics 2024.
Yusuf Dikec and his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan won Silver Medal for Turkey in this event. However, what caught everyone’s eye was Dikec’s uniqueness in approach.
What caused stir in Internet?
Unlike most shooters who use ear protection and specialized glasses to block vision in one eye and reduce glare, Dikec took a different approach.
Dikec with a white casual T-shirt, & a casual approach stood relaxed with no lenses, eye or ear protection, just a normal spectacle. With this approach he not only succeed but also clinched Silver Medal in the event for Turkey.
This whole approach-outcome took social media flooding with appreciation, memes, and posts. This was according to all the “Coldest moment in Olympics”. Fans wrote “Turkey sent a 51-year-old dude with no specialized lenses, eye cover, or ear protection, and secured the silver medal.
Who’s Yusuf Dikec?
Yusuf Dikec, is a Turkish Sports Shooter specialized in Shooting events. He is a retired non-commissioned officer of the Turkish Gendarmerie and a member of Jandarma Gücü Sports Club.
He became the Turkish champion several times and is the national record holder in different categories of pistol events.
In 2006, Yusuf Dikeç set a new world record in 25 m center-fire pistol event at the CISM Military World Championships held in Rena, Norway scoring 597 points.
At the World Championships, he became a double world champion in 2014, winning in both the 25m standard pistol and the 25m center fire pistol events. Additionally, Dikec earned a silver medal in the 10m air pistol. In the European Championships, he has claimed seven titles, including a win in the air pistol trio event in 2024 in Gyor.
At the 2021 European Shooting Championships in Osijek, Croatia, he won the bronze medal with his teammates Serdar Demirel and İsmail Keleş in the 10 m Air Pistol Team event.
