Kolkata: East Bengal has roped themselves into the ISL, after a dramatic turn of events since March. The club need to be keen in selecting players as the team isn’t settled like other ISL teams. In the meantime former Red and Gold winger Juan Mera has stated that he wants to be the part of the East Bangal side this season.

In an interview he stated that, ” Just because East Bengal will play the ISL and me wants to be the part of it is a wrong thing to say as I wanted to play this season too for the club. Last season we couldn’t become the Champions but I tried to give my best for the team. See the supporters love me. I want to play for East Bengal this season and win trophy for them.”

Mera has been an important part of the side last season. He had a great start to the season but was totally lost in the middle of the season. But he ended the season on a happy note by playing well for the side. Speculations claim that due to the departure of East Bengal’s former coach Alejandro Garcia, Mera lost his motivation on the field, as he was coach’s favorite.

Mera denies these calims as he added, ” I don’t think Alejandro was the reason but I lost my form. Scoring goals are not everything in football but yes I have tried hard and I hope the supporters know about it.”

Mera can be an important input in the East Bengal side who are looking for good options. As he can influence the game from the wings and as well as from the middle. But the new management hasn’t contacted the Spanish winger till now. So we just hope for the best.
