New Delhi: Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat on Friday (August 28) said she has tested positive for COVID-19. She will be conferred with this year’s Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award. The Asian Games and Commonwealth Games gold medalist had been training at her village in Sonepat with her coach Om Prakash.
“Yes, I have tested positive for COVID-19 when my sample was taken in Sonepat before the dress rehearsal for the awards ceremony. I will recover soon, God willing. I am in isolation at home,” Vinesh told PTI. The 26-year-old will skip Saturday’s virtual ceremony for the National Sports Awards distribution. She is one of five sportspeople selected for the country’s highest sporting award this year.
I have tested positive for COVID-19 in a test taken yesterday. I am currently showing no symptoms but have isolated myself. All my family members are also isolating. I would request everyone who has come in contact with me recently to get tested. Stay safe everyone! Thank you 🙏
