New Delhi: A massive blow to Indian Premier League franchise Lucknow Super Giants’ as England fast bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of IPL 2022 after picking up a right elbow injury during the first Test against West Indies in North Sound last week.

Wood was roped in by the new franchise for a whopping amount of INR 7.5 crore at the two-day mega auction event in Bengaluru last month, was going to lead their pace attack along with Avesh Khan. Wood’s injury would be a huge setback for the KL Rahul-led side. However, Lucknow has not yet announced a replacement for Wood yet.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, Wood’s status was revealed to the LSG franchise by the England Cricket Board (ECB). It confirmed that he cannot bowl and any aggravation will only cause long-term damage.
“Scan results have confirmed that Wood has a right elbow injury. He will return to the UK next week for a specialist opinion regarding the management of his injury,” ECB said in a statement.

“The Durham quick, who was due to play in the Indian Premier League, will now miss the tournament and will have an indefinite break from cricket until more information is determined from the elbow specialist. England men will confirm whether a replacement will be called up in due course ahead of the third Test in Grenada.” The statement added.
