Durand Cup 2021: FC Goa advance to the quarterfinals

Kolkata: Indian Super League side FC Goa became the third team to reach the quarter finals of Durand Cup 2021 after edging past Sudeva Delhi at Vivekananda Yuvabharati Krirangan on Monday September 13.

Although both the teams had sloppy starts, but the end turned out differently. As FC Goa reached the quarterfinals, Sudeva were out of the tournament even with a game in hand owning to two back to back loses. Just as the first half was about to go goal less with the absence of actual chances ,Nemil shot a powerful left-footed curler to beat Sudeva custodian Sachin Jha, giving his side a lead in the last minute of the added time.

Sudeva looked better upfront at the start of the second half but could not convert the chances. Sachin’s departure from the field owning to injuries added to their miseries. FC Goa super sub Jorge Ortiz Mendoza however extended the lead for the ISL side with 10 mins on the clock to ensure the victory for the Gaurs. However , William Pauliankhum did pull a goal back for Sudeva after converting a spot kick awarded to them after a Edu Bedia foul.
