Rome: AS Roma have announced the appointment of  Jose Mourinho as their new head coach on Tuesday. The 58-year-old Portuguese will move to the Stadio Olympico ahead of the 2021-22 season penning a three-year deal taking over the charge from current coach Paulo Fonseca.

“The club are delighted to announce an agreement has been reached with José Mourinho for him to become our new head coach ahead of the 2021-22 season,” The Italian club stated.

The news came after the Portuguese was sacked by Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur a few days ago. Meanwhile, this will be his second managerial stint in the Italian top-flight football after his successful couple of seasons with Inter Milan leading them to a treble back in 2010.

“After meetings with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood the full -extent of their ambitions for AS Roma,” said Jose. “It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.

“The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season”, he further added.
