Goa: A match of thrills. A match of chills. Mumbai City FC came up trumps against Chennaiyin FC as they emerged victorious 2-1 after a riveting match on Wednesday at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim in the Indian Super League.

Hernan Santana and Adam La Fondre scored for the Islanders while it was Jakub Sylvestr, who netted the only goal for Chenniyin. This match takes Mumbai to the top of the tournament with 12 points from five games ahead of NorthEast United FC who are at second with nine points.

The match started the way everyone excepted it to happen. Two-time champions Chennaiyin were more into winning the game to kick-start their campaign while for Mumbai it was to hold on to their supremacy.

Chennaiyin were playing better football from the start with silky touches from Raphael Crivellaro and piercing Lallianzuala Chhangte moves from the wings. They should have scored quite early but luck and Mourtada Fall stood in front of them. Mumbai was a bit lost and was finding it difficult to cope up with the speedy attacks from Chennaiyin.

In the 40th minute, Sylvestr opened the scoring for Chennaiyin after a riveting run from Chhangte breaking down the Mumbai defence. However, Mumbai took it eight minutes to score with Santana scoring the equaliser from a Hugo Boumous corner

In the second half, Mumbai started to play a bit more freely as Boumous and La Fondre started to link between themselves. Even Chennaiyin was attacking and it was an end to end contest. In the 75th minute, La Fondre scored a poachers goal, which Mumbai managed to hold till the last minute.
