
Kolkata : Shubman Gill led India to a record breaking triumph over West Indies by 8 wickets, chasing down 406 runs in just 43.3 overs at Guwahati in 2nd ODI.
Gill’s double hundred shattered multiple records and Rohit Sharma scored 35th ODI hundred to enter record books.
Jammu and Kashmir sensation Auqib Nabi was handed debut cap in a match which was also KL Rahul’s 100th ODI.
India bowling first got early break through as Prasidh Krishna dismissed Keacy Carty (9) on 37 runs.
However, John Campbell (101), Shai Hope (104) and Amir Jangoo (114) bashed inexperienced Indian bowling lineup to post daunting total of 405/7 – their highest ever ODI total.
Chasing 406, Indian openers Shubman Gill (233*) and Rohit Sharma (101) posted 255 runs stand – 2nd highest in ODI by an Indian pair.
Rohit entered 12000 runs club in just 382 innings, 2nd fastest by any Indian after Virat Kohli and scored 101 (75) with 6 sixes and 10 boundary – his 35th ODI ton, before falling to Jayden Seales trapped in front in 27th over.
Virat Kohli (29) joined Gill who was fuming after scoring his 11th ODI ton and second consecutive in this series. Kohli smashed quick fire cameo before being caught off by former RCB teammate Sherfane Rutherford in the over of Shamar Joseph.
But Gill didn’t stop – he scored a magnificent record breaking 223*(133) Balls comprising 8 sixes, 26 boundaries and staggering 167.67 strike rate.
With this, Gill became only the 2nd Player in ODI history to score multiple double hundreds, and this was fastest double hundred in ODI history. The 223* was highest individual score by any Indian captain in this format, and highest score by an Indian in a successful ODI chase. Gill was awarded Player of the match.

Ruturaj Gaikwad (31*) supported Gill well for 86* runs partnership as India recorded their highest ever successful ODI chase and 2nd highest in ODI history after South Africa’s record breaking 435 chase in 2006 at Johannesburg.
This was India’s 14th consecutive Bilateral ODI series win against West Indies – most against any teams in Cricketing history.
